The University Park campus is located in the town of State College, near
the geographic center of the state of Pennsylvania, where the Appalachian
Mountains and rural valleys meet in a predominantly agricultural setting. The town
of State College and surrounding areas contain some of the most beautiful and
diverse neighborhoods in all of Pennsylvania. We enjoy music,
art and history, theater, sporting events, shopping, dining and socializing--plenty
of cultural and sporting amenities, and a highly educated and diverse population. Penn
State's recreational facilities include Beaver Stadium, the Bryce Jordan Center,
swimming pools, tennis and basketball courts, tracks and an indoor ice skating
rink. There
are many off campus recreational park areas such as the University-owned Stone
Valley Recreation area which has a nature center, a lake with boat rentals, hiking
and ski trails, and picnic and camping facilities. The Centre Region Parks
and Recreation operates 33 parks in the area 12
are in State College Borough, four are in College Township, seven are in Ferguson
Township, five are in Harris Township and five are in Patton Township. The
Centre Region is often referred to as "Happy Valley" because it truly is
an exceptional place to study and learn, to live, to work and raise a family.
We hope you choose Penn State and become a part of our family.
